The board is a self-contained game set that includes two copies of the rules, as well as all of the pieces, two spares of each pawn, and one spare die. The board and its pieces are magnetic, which makes it a great travel set. It also enables you to hang the board on the wall with the pieces on it, which is why there are holes on the back of the board to mount onto a nail.

Poleana's origins are somewhat contested. While the game appears to be inspired by Pachisi (not Parcheesi, but Pachisi), most sources claim it to originate in prisons in Mexico, where it is quite popular today. Its origin, as well as the contrast, inspired the color scheme for this version. There are many house rules that vary across translations, so while this may be the first English translation for the game, it might not necessarily be the most accurate by everyone's standards, though the written rules provided with the game attempt to explore and enumerate some of these house rules.
